SUMMARY:
Expulsion of students for firearms possession on school property. Requires school boards to expel from school attendance for 365 calendar days, any student who is determined by the school board to have brought a firearm onto school property or to a school-sponsored activity. Based on the facts of the particular case, school boards may determine that special circumstances exist and another disciplinary action or term of expulsion is appropriate. School boards are also authorized to require that any student who is expelled pursuant to the provisions of this bill attend an alternative education program as the board may deem appropriate. Consistent with federal and state laws, the term “firearm” is referenced.
