SUMMARY:
Insurance; nonrenewal of policies; credit reports. Prohibits insurers from refusing to renew a homeowners insurance policy because of any claim resulting primarily from natural causes. The bill also prohibits insurers from refusing to renew a homeowners or a private passenger automobile policy because of information contained within an insured's credit report. However, under the bill's provisions, an insurer may use a credit report as an information resource if it conducts an independent investigation which confirms or validates a legitimate basis under the act for nonrenewal.
