SUMMARY:

Qualified interpreters for the hearing-impaired. Provides that an individual who has received certification from the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf at any time in the past, regardless of whether such certification has expired, and who has served as an interpreter for a Virginia court for a minimum of five years since July 1, 1995, is a qualified interpreter. A person must be a qualified interpreter in order to be part of the statewide service or listing of the Department for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. The act sunsets on July 1, 1996.
