HB 2084 Hospitals; requirements for fire suppression.

Introduced by: Jay W. DeBoer | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Hospitals; requirements for fire suppression. Prohibits the Commissioner of Health from issuing or renewing the license of any hospital, regardless of when such facility was constructed, unless the hospital is equipped with an automatic sprinkler system which complies with the regulations of the Board of Housing and Community Development. The Commissioner of Health may, however, grant an extension for compliance until July 1, 1998, for hospitals that can demonstrate inability to comply. Further, in certain localities, hospitals will be granted additional time for compliance, i.e., until July 1, 2003. The bill also defines “automatic sprinkler system” as a device for suppressing fire in patient rooms and other patient care areas. The Board of Housing and Community Development is required to establish standards for fire suppression systems in hospitals and, in developing such, to seek input from relevant state and local agencies as well as the affected institutions.
