SUMMARY:
Persons with disabilities. Establishes the Individual and Family Support Act to implement a comprehensive system of support for people with disabilities and their families. A local family support agency will provide assistance for families to coordinate a service plan and provide information as needed. The Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services will determine eight regions throughout the state, each of which will have a regional individual and family support council. The bill creates a State Policy Council, which will include a representative from each of the eight regions, to develop policies and procedures to implement the Act. An Individual and Family Support Fund is established and anticipates being funded with moneys appropriated by the General Assembly.
