HB 2031 Criminal records check for school board employees.

Introduced by: Robert Tata | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Criminal records check for school board employees. Requires all local school boards (i) to require individuals accepting employment after July 1, 1995, to submit to fingerprinting and (ii) to obtain certain information from the Central Criminal Records Exchange. School boards must conduct the check for all employees, whether full-time, part-time, permanent, or temporary. The individual may be required to pay for the fingerprinting and records check, at the discretion of the school board. A technical change to § 19.2-389 clarifies that it is the school board, and not the school division, that is the employing entity requiring the records check. Under current law, the fingerprinting and records check are required only by those school boards that are named. The records are only searched for specific crimes, such as murder, neglect of children, arson, and sexual assault.
