SUMMARY:
Virginia Retirement System; health insurance credits for retired teachers. Mandates that teachers retired under VRS who rendered at least 15 years of total creditable service under the System shall receive a health insurance credit added to their monthly retirement allowances, which shall be applied to reduce the retired member's health insurance premium costs. Currently, the health insurance credit program is optional for employers. The bill also provides for a reimbursement of up to the applicable credit for members who purchase an alternative personal health insurance policy. The effective date of the bill is January 1, 1996, provided that state funding is included in the 1996-98 budget bill.
