SUMMARY:

Uniform International Wills Act. Adopts the Uniform Act, implementing, at the state level, the Washington Convention of 1973 governing the form, validity and registration of international wills. The Uniform Act has been adopted in at least nine states and is recommended by the Virginia Uniform Laws Commissioners and the Virginia Bar Association.

Currently wills are not subject to probate worldwide. There is federal legislation pending which will require Virginia to accept foreign wills. This legislation provides standards and will facilitate implementation of the federal law.
