HB 1885 Firearms check of persons involuntarily committed.

Introduced by: Whittington W. Clement (by request) | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Firearms check. Removes requirement that a thumbprint of a person involuntarily committed be obtained at the site of the commitment hearing and that the clerk forward a copy of the thumbprint to the Central Criminal Records Exchange for the purpose of conducting a firearms check. This requirement which was placed in the Code by the 1994 General Assembly did not prove to be feasible because individuals trained to do fingerprinting are not usually available at the site of the commitment hearing. A copy of the involuntary commitment order will still be forwarded to the Central Criminal Records Exchange to be used only to conduct a firearms transaction record check.
