HB 1811 Check Casher Act.

SUMMARY:

Check Casher Act. Establishes the Check Casher Act providing for the regulation of persons engaged in the business of cashing checks, drafts, or money orders for compensation. The bill requires check cashers to post a notice stating the fees charged for cashing items and to be registered with the State Corporation Commission. The SCC is authorized to investigate the affairs, business premises and records of check cashers and promulgate regulations. Violators of the bill's provisions are subject to both civil and criminal penalties.
