SUMMARY:
Eluding a police officer. Redefines “crime” for the purposes of the crime victim compensation laws to include driving recklessly to elude police (so as to qualify the victims of such a crime for compensation). The bill punishes mere failure to respond to police as a Class 1 misdemeanor, reckless driving to elude as a Class 6 felony, and reckless driving to elude resulting in death or serious bodily injury as a Class 5 felony. The measure also provides for seizure of the vehicle if the owner recklessly drives to elude.
