SUMMARY:
Virginia Retirement System; membership in Law-Enforcement Officers' Retirement System. Authorizes localities, by resolution legally adopted and approved by the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Retirement System, to provide retirement benefits equivalent to the State Police Officers' Retirement System to deputy sheriffs and jail officers employed by a regional jail authority constituted pursuant to Articles 3.1 (§ 53.1-95.2 et seq.) or 5 (§ 53.1-105 et seq.) of Chapter 3 of Title 53.1 who, prior to the date of their employment with such authorities, were members of the Law-Enforcement Officers' Retirement System. This bill is “BY REQUEST” of the jurisdictions included in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority.
