SUMMARY:

School board salaries. Authorizes an increase in the salaries of Fauquier County School Board members from $3,500 to $5,000; the salaries of Montgomery County School Board members from $1,800 to $3,600; the salaries of Washington County school board members from $3,000 to $6,000; and the salaries of Westmoreland County School Board members from $1,200 to $2,400. Commonly referred to as the “Christmas Tree Bill,” all of the known and properly approved school board salary increase proposals have been consolidated in this provision. Although some school board salaries are established in charters or by other means, the majority of the Commonwealth's school boards have their salaries established via the general statute amended in this bill, i.e., § 22.1-32.
