SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 38
Commending the Virginia Society, Children of the American Revolution.

Agreed to by the Senate, February 25, 1995

WHEREAS, the Virginia Society, Children of the American Revolution celebrates the centennial of its national organization, which was founded in Washington, D.C., on April 5, 1895; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Society, Children of the American Revolution (V.S.C.A.R.) begins "Another Century of Patriotism and Service" with America's oldest patriotic youth organization; and

WHEREAS, the V.S.C.A.R. is made up of children and youth through age 21 who are lineal descendants of men or women who, with unfailing loyalty, rendered material aid to the cause of American independence as soldiers, sailors, civil officers, or recognized patriots in one of the several colonies or states, or of the United States; and

WHEREAS, those members and senior leaders endeavor to acquire knowledge of American history; preserve and restore places of historical importance associated with the men and women who forwarded American independence; ascertain the deeds and honor the memories of the men, women, and children who rendered service to the cause of the American Revolution; promote the celebration of patriotic anniversaries; honor and cherish the flag of the United States of America above all other flags; and love, uphold, and extend the principles of American liberty and patriotism; and

WHEREAS, the members of the V.S.C.A.R. promote conservation, patriotic education, and loyal respect for America's Constitution and reverence for its flag throughout Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, That this body commend the Virginia Society, Children of the American Revolution for its work in building better citizens and stronger communities in the Commonwealth and the nation; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to James J. Holsinger, State President of the Virginia Society, Children of the American Revolution, in honor of the centennial celebration of the founding of this fine patriotic organization.
