WHEREAS, McCarty Chichester Moncure, a descendant of one of Stafford County's oldest and most distinguished families and the treasurer of Stafford County for over 26 years, died on November 20, 1993; and

WHEREAS, a native of Stafford County and a graduate of Stafford High School, McCarty “Mack” Moncure was a veteran of service in the U. S. Army during World War II; and

WHEREAS, following the war, Mack Moncure served Stafford County as chief forest warden, as chairman of the Board of Assessors, and as chairman of the Board of Supervisors; and

WHEREAS, Mack Moncure joined the Stafford County Treasurer's Office in 1957, became deputy treasurer in 1962, and was elected treasurer in 1967; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to his job and to the citizens of Stafford County, Mack Moncure was reelected treasurer seven times, usually without opposition; and

WHEREAS, Mack Moncure was vice commander of the American Legion, board president of the Southern States Cooperative and the Southern States Petroleum Cooperative, and a director of the Stafford Farm Bureau; and

WHEREAS, Mack Moncure also served as a member of the Stafford Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Committee and as a member of the area committee for the Farmers Home Administration; and

WHEREAS, Mack Moncure's nearly 50-year career was marked by singular integrity, dedication, and affection for the citizens of Stafford County he served so well; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia note with sadness the passing of a fine public servant and citizen of Stafford County, McCarty Chichester Moncure; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of McCarty Chichester Moncure as an expression of the Senate's respect for his memory.
