SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 404
Commending John R. Snoddy, Jr.

WHEREAS, John R. Snoddy, Jr., Judge of the Circuit Court for the Tenth Judicial District since 1976, has announced his retirement from the bench; and

WHEREAS, a native of Dillwyn, in Buckingham County, John Snoddy graduated from Dillwyn High School, served in the U.S. Air Force in the Pacific during World War II, and earned his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School in 1949; and

WHEREAS, elected Mayor of Dillwyn shortly thereafter, John Snoddy oversaw the installation of the town's first water and sewer system, promoted the organization of the first volunteer rescue squad in Buckingham County, and was instrumental in economic development efforts in the area; and

WHEREAS, in 1957, John Snoddy was elected Commonwealth's Attorney for Buckingham County, a position in which he served with distinction for 19 years; and

WHEREAS, in 1976, John Snoddy was appointed Judge of the Circuit Court for the Tenth Judicial District and currently serves as Chief Judge of that circuit; and

WHEREAS, Judge Snoddy served as president of the Virginia Commonwealth Attorneys' Association, served for eight years on the Virginia State Bar Council and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Council, and served as a member of the Board of Directors for Virginia State College; and

WHEREAS, throughout a long and distinguished career in public service, Judge John Snoddy has served the people of the Commonwealth with great dedication, integrity, and distinction; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Judge John R. Snoddy, Jr., on the completion of a sterling career as Mayor of Dillwyn, Commonwealth's Attorney for Buckingham County, and Judge of the Circuit Court for the Tenth Judicial District; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Judge John R. Snoddy, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for his outstanding career and best wishes for a long and rewarding retirement.
