SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 388
Designating June 11, 1995, as Cancer Survivors' Day in Virginia.

WHEREAS, the United States is a nation of eight million cancer survivors, including tens of thousands of Virginians who have survived this deadly disease; and

WHEREAS, more people are being diagnosed with cancer than ever before; and

WHEREAS, our growing understanding of the causes of cancer holds the promise of developing new improvements in its treatment; and

WHEREAS, on Sunday, June 11, 1995, the Massey Cancer Center of the Medical College of Virginia of Virginia Commonwealth University will honor those who have survived cancer and will celebrate this day with cancer survivors and their families; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby designate June 11, 1995, as Cancer Survivors' Day in Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the General Assembly encourage the citizens of the Commonwealth to seek early recognition and prompt treatment, with the realization that cancer can be survived; and, be it

RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Massey Cancer Center in honor of Cancer Survivors' Day in Virginia.
