LD7722649WHEREAS, Virginia Route 168 carries a high volume of tourist traffic between major transportation arteries in southside Hampton Roads--such as Interstate Route 64 and U. S. Route 13--and destinations along the Atlantic coast of North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Route 168 is also important to local residents as a major commuter route; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Route 168 also carries a large volume of commerce related neither to tourism nor to commuters; and
WHEREAS, the volumes and sources of funding for needed improvements to Virginia Route 168 are woefully inadequate compared to the highway’s traffic volume and economic importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the Department of Transportation be hereby requested to study means and sources of providing badly needed additional funding for urgently needed improvements to Virginia Route 168 in southside Hampton Roads.
The Department shall complete its work in time to submit its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the 1996 Session of the General Assembly as provided in the procedures of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems for processing legislative documents.
