SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 350
On the death of Marvin Carl Smith.

WHEREAS, Marvin Carl Smith of Suffolk, Virginia, died on December 11, 1994; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Carl Smith, born in Shenandoah, Virginia, was educated in Shenandoah, Virginia, and lived a life filled with happiness, compassion, and joy; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Carl Smith served with distinction in the United States Navy during World War II and The Korean Conflict; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Carl Smith was the owner and operator of Nelson and Smith Heating and Air Conditioning, Incorporated, provided service to the residents of South Hampton Roads, and demonstrated meaningful and ethical business practices and relationships as he offered employment opportunities to a number of individuals seeking favorable circumstances in which to provide for themselves and their families; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his professional accomplishments, Marvin Carl Smith was a member of the American Fellowship Lodge #148 AF and AM; Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 34th Masonic District; Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies; Khedive Temple Yacht Club; and Elizabeth Manor Country Club bringing well-deserved honor and recognition to himself, his community, and this Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Carl Smith held particular significance in the lives of Louise I. Smith, Zuddie Smith, Alice Smith and Franklin D. Edmonson; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Carl Smith held the highest standard of commitment to friendship without regard to race, religion or creed, as he deeply touched the lives of all who knew him through his wisdom, insight, patience, wit and charm; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of Marvin Carl Smith and extend its sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Marvin Carl Smith as an expression of the esteem in which his memory is held by the General Assembly and the people of Virginia.
