On the death of Steven Allen Colona.

WHEREAS, Steven Allen Colona, an 18-year-old volunteer firefighter from the town of Melfa in Accomack County, was killed in the line of duty on December 27, 1994; and

WHEREAS, a member of the Melfa Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company for two years, Steven Colona was responding to an emergency when the fire truck he was driving overturned; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated and well-trained firefighter, Steven Colona was the chief engineer for the Melfa Company, responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the rescue and fire vehicles; and

WHEREAS, Steven Colona was also a trained emergency medical services technician, having recently completed shock-trauma emergency medical technician training; and

WHEREAS, Steven Colona’s death, at such a tragically young age, is a reminder of the dangers faced daily by the thousands of volunteer fire and rescue personnel throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Steven Colona leaves a lasting legacy of courage, selfless commitment, and dedication to the safety and welfare of his neighbors; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the untimely passing of Steven Allen Colona; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Steven Allen Colona as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his life of service to his community.
