1995 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Handley High School football team completed a perfect 1994 season by winning the Virginia High School League Group AA, Division 3 state championship with a hard-fought 12-7 victory over Gate City High School; and
WHEREAS, the Judges from Handley High School brought back to Winchester the school's second state football championship, recorded Handley's fourth undefeated regular season in the past 15 years, and set nine new state records, nine Handley team records, and 18 new individual records; and
WHEREAS, dominant throughout the year, the Judges outscored most of their opponents by large margins, shut out two of them, and were challenged only once in the regular season and once in the playoffs; and
WHEREAS, paced by a record-setting passing offense and a stubborn, hard-hitting defense, the Judges from Handley High School roared through an undefeated regular season, winning the Northeastern District championship, then defeated Robert E. Lee of Staunton and Orange County High Schools to win the Region II title; and
WHEREAS, after defeating Nottoway High School, 33-8, in the state semifinals, the Judges proved their mettle in the mud of Gate City, where they overcame the elements, the opponents' home-field advantage, and a very strong Gate City team to emerge with the state title; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Ron Lindon's charges won the title as they had won all year, with talent, teamwork, dedication, and perseverance--qualities that carried the 1994 Judges to the most successful football season in Handley's glorious history; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly salute the Judges of Handley High School on their 1994 dream season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Ron Lindon in honor of the championship season of the 1994 Handley High School football team.
