1995 SESSION
WHEREAS, on September 30, 1994, Cheryl B. Henig, a science teacher at Stonewall Jackson Middle School in Hanover County, was selected Virginia's Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS, a teacher for nearly 25 years, Cheryl Henig graduated from the University of Maryland and received advanced training from Lynchburg College, the University of Virginia, and Virginia Commonwealth University; and
WHEREAS, beginning her teaching career in the Fairfax County Public Schools in 1970, Cheryl Henig has since taught in North Carolina and in Lynchburg, Richmond, Goochland, and Hanover; and
WHEREAS, part of an innovative approach to interdisciplinary instruction at Stonewall Jackson Middle School, Cheryl Henig has been a team leader since 1992, working with other professionals to share ideas and methods and solve problems; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her teaching excellence, Cheryl Henig won Teacher of the Year honors at Stonewall Jackson Middle School, in Hanover County, and in Region I of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Henig has been deeply involved in her profession for many years, writing manuals for science workshops, working with the PTA to increase parental support and involvement in students' education, and presenting her innovative teaching approaches at a variety of local, regional, and national professional meetings; and
WHEREAS, her love of teaching, her dedication to the education of her students, and her commitment to her profession make Cheryl Henig a most deserving recipient of the Commonwealth's Teacher of the Year award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Cheryl B. Henig, Virginia's Teacher of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Cheryl B. Henig as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for her invaluable contributions to the education of the youth of Virginia.
