Requesting that the Virginia Retirement System study either including certain firefighters in the State Police Officers' Retirement System or determining a way to provide them with retirement benefits equivalent thereto.

WHEREAS, there are twelve firefighters, who are state employees, working with the Virginia Air National Guard at Richmond International Airport; and

WHEREAS, firefighters who are employees of local governments may be given an option to obtain retirement benefits equivalent to the State Police Officers' Retirement System; and

WHEREAS, the twelve firefighters, who are state employees working with the Virginia Air National Guard at Richmond International Airport, have the same training and perform the same fire fighting duties and responsibilities as local firefighters who are given the option to obtain benefits equivalent to the State Police Officers' Retirement System; and

WHEREAS, there is no just reason to treat the twelve firefighters, who are state employees working with the Virginia Air National Guard at Richmond International Airport, any differently than local firefighters who are given the option to obtain benefits equivalent to the State Police Officers' Retirement System; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the Virginia Retirement System is requested to study either including the twelve firefighters, who are state employees working with the Virginia Air National Guard at Richmond International Airport, in the State Police Officers' Retirement System or determining a way to provide them with retirement benefits equivalent thereto.

The Virginia Retirement System shall complete its work in time to submit its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the 1996 Session of the General Assembly as provided in the procedures of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems for the processing of legislative documents.
