LD5416693WHEREAS, Carroll L. Saine, longtime chairman of Central Fidelity Bank and one of the giants of Virginia’s banking industry, died on August 18, 1994; and
WHEREAS, Carroll Saine devoted his entire career to the success of Central Fidelity Bank, rising from a position of management intern in 1957 to chairman and chief executive officer of the third-largest banking company based in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, in 1976, when he was only 41, Carroll Saine was elected president and chief executive officer of Central National Corporation, the bank holding company, and five years later took on the same position with Central Fidelity Banks, Inc., the new holding company; and
WHEREAS, in 1982, Carroll Saine became chairman and chief executive officer of the company, a position he held until his death; and
WHEREAS, unabashedly committed to the success of Central Fidelity, Carroll Saine never objected to his reputation as “head cheerleader” for the bank, and he retained his enthusiasm for the bank, and its thousands of employees, throughout his career; and
WHEREAS, committed to keeping Central Fidelity independent, Carroll Saine presided over a company with a record, through 1993, of 19 consecutive years of increased earnings, a rarity in the banking industry; and
WHEREAS, a visionary leader and a man utterly devoted to Central Fidelity Bank, its customers, and its employees, Carroll Saine leaves a legacy of unmatched achievement, commitment, and compassion; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the untimely loss of one of the Commonwealth’s finest business leaders, Carroll L. Saine; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Carroll L. Saine as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
