SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 302
On the death of Dr. Bonita L. Settle.

WHEREAS, Dr. Bonita L. Settle of Richmond, a state Department of Health pediatrician with the Crater Health District in Petersburg, died on July 29, 1994; and

WHEREAS, a native of Washington, D.C., Dr. Settle graduated from Fisk University in 1970 and received her medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1974; and

WHEREAS, after completing her internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Settle was a resident at Meharry Hubbard Hospital in Nashville, where she also served as director of the Child Development Center and on the staff of Meharry Medical College; and

WHEREAS, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Virginia Public Health Association, and the National and American Medical Associations, Dr. Settle had served as statewide respite care coordinator for the Virginia Institute of Developmental Disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University; and

WHEREAS, in her position with the public health clinic in Petersburg, Dr. Settle worked with infants, children, and mothers from low-income families; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Settle was also involved in social and community activities, including the local Parent-Teacher Association, the Richmond chapter of Jack and Jill of America, and the Delta Sigma Theta sorority; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Settle was a talented and dedicated physician who contributed her time, talents, and energy to the young, the ill, the unfortunate of her community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the untimely passing of Dr. Bonita L. Settle; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dr. Bonita L. Settle as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
