1995 SESSION
LD5369625WHEREAS, E. Judith Krasnow, a highly regarded expert in the field of community mental health and the Director of the City of Alexandria Mental Health Center for 16 years, died on July 9, 1994; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Boston, Simmons, and Catholic Universities, Judith Krasnow joined the Alexandria Mental Health Center in 1962 as Director of Prevention and Training, a position she held until 1978; and
WHEREAS, as Director of the Mental Health Center from 1978 until 1994, Judith Krasnow established an enviable record for leadership in the mental health field and was directly responsible for the expansion of mental health services to the citizens of Alexandria; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure as Director, Judith Krasnow obtained a Comprehensive Mental Health Center federal grant, which enabled Alexandria’s Community Services Board to expand its mental health programs, including establishing 24-hour emergency service and enhancing outpatient, inpatient, drug treatment, and prevention programs; and
WHEREAS, Judith Krasnow also initiated the first mental health training program for Alexandria’s day-care and preschool staff, mental health programs for jail inmates, home-based mental health services for high-risk families, and residential and vocational services to people with serious and persistent mental illness; and
WHEREAS, a recognized leader in community-based mental health services, Judith Krasnow leaves a distinguished legacy of service and commitment to the Alexandria community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the untimely death of a singularly dedicated and effective public servant, E. Judith Krasnow; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of E. Judith Krasnow as an expression of the General Assembly’s great respect for her career of service to the citizens of Alexandria and the Commonwealth.
