LD8619733WHEREAS, James A. Teass, the Chairman of the Bedford County Board of Supervisors and a civic leader for over 30 years, died on October 24, 1994; and
WHEREAS, a native of Bedford County, a World War II veteran, and a prominent cattle farmer, James Teass was first elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1960, serving until 1964; and
WHEREAS, James Teass’ second term with the Board began in 1980 and lasted until his death, which came during his third term as Chairman; and
WHEREAS, maintaining exceptionally close contact with his constituents, James Teass was an extremely popular and effective community leader; and
WHEREAS, the devotion to and steadfast support of Bedford County’s agricultural industry that characterized James Teass’ career were evident in his extensive and sustained involvement in county extension and 4-H programs; and
WHEREAS, known for his gentlemanly demeanor, his thoughtfulness, and his dedication to the citizens of Bedford County, James Teass leaves an unparalleled legacy of civic leadership; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of a singularly able, respected, and dedicated leader, James A. Teass; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James A. Teass as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his career of service to the citizens of Bedford County.
