Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 46.2-743.1 as follows:

§ 46.2-743.1. Special license plates for certain veterans; fees.

On receipt of an application therefor and written evidence that the applicant has been issued a DD214 document by the United States Department of Defense, the Commissioner shall issue to the applicant special license plates bearing the legend “VETERAN.” The fee for issuance of such special license plates shall be that prescribed for state license plates, and, unless such special license plate bears reserved numbers or letters as authorized in § 46.2-726, there shall be no additional charge.
