Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 18.2-204.3 as follows:

§ 18.2-204.3. False statement for the purpose of deceiving or defrauding insurance company.

Any person who presents or causes to be presented to any insurer any written or oral statement, including computer-generated documents, as part of or in support of a claim for payment or other benefit pursuant to an insurance policy with the intent to injure, defraud, or deceive any insurance company as defined in § 38.2-100 and with knowledge that such statement contains any materially false, incomplete, or misleading information shall be guilty of a Class 6 felony.
