WHEREAS, the golf team from Mills E. Godwin High School in Henrico County won the 1994 Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship; and

WHEREAS, making the feat more remarkable, the Godwin golfers became the first team from the Central Region to win the state title in 28 years; and

WHEREAS, on their way to a 17-1 season, the golfers from Godwin High School won their fourth consecutive Colonial District championship and followed that with their eighth straight Colonial District Tournament title; and

WHEREAS, led by Coach Tom Hoy, the Godwin golfers then won the Central Region championship for the second consecutive year on their way to the precedent-setting state title; and

WHEREAS, the members of the 1994 Godwin High School golf team were Mark Balch, Mitch Begun, Blair Brantley, Matt Evans, Mike King, Nick McKloskey, Mark Merolla, Mike Merolla, Chris Moore, John Selbach, Scott Shupe, Andy Smith, Chris Thayer, Greg Trigani, and Stephen Webb; and

WHEREAS, the triumphant 1994 season of the golf team from Mills E. Godwin High School is a tribute to the skill, teamwork, determination, and perseverance of the players, who overcame a long history of frustration to prevail in the state championship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the golf team from Mills E. Godwin High School be commended for winning the 1994 state golf championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Tom Hoy in honor of the fine performance of the 1994 Mills E. Godwin High School golf team.
