1995 SESSION
WHEREAS, following a purse-snatching at a shopping center in Amherst on January 11, 1995, two 15-year-old sophomores at Amherst County High School, Cerrone Davis and Antwan Rose, were hailed by the victim of the crime, who asked for their assistance; and
WHEREAS, exhibiting courage and presence of mind, the two young men chased the suspect on their bicycles and cornered him in a wooded area nearby, where police apprehended him; and
WHEREAS, as a result of their prompt actions, Cerrone Davis and Antwan Rose were hailed by the Amherst Town Council for their outstanding bravery and courage; and
WHEREAS, at a time when the pleas of victims too often go unanswered, when the fear of getting involved overcomes the responsibilities of good citizenship, and when the youth of the Commonwealth often end up on the wrong side of the law, the actions of Cerrone Davis and Antwan Rose are a refreshing reminder that most of our youth are not afraid to do the right thing; and
WHEREAS, through their unhesitating courage, their willingness to help a fellow citizen in distress, and their quick and effective action, Cerrone Davis and Antwan Rose remind us all of the nature of good citizenship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Cerrone M. Davis and Antwan S. Rose be hereby commended for their courage, their honor, and their quick and resolute action; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Cerrone M. Davis and Antwan S. Rose as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration of their bravery and their willingness to come to the aid of another.
