HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 28 Offered January 31, 1995 Commending the Atlee High School band. ---------- Patron--Hargrove ----------

WHEREAS, formed in 1991 in conjunction with the opening of Atlee High School in Hanover County, the Atlee High School band has already won local, regional, and national honors; and

WHEREAS, in its first year of existence, the Atlee High School band earned superior ratings at the Virginia State Concert Band Festival; and

WHEREAS, by the spring of 1993, the Atlee High School band had been invited to perform at Disney World in Florida and had won the Sweepstakes Award for outstanding high school concert performance at the Music-Fest in Orlando; and

WHEREAS, the 1994 edition of the Atlee High School band won the Grand Champion trophy for outstanding performances in the areas of concert band, jazz ensemble, and marching band at the Virginia Beach Music Fiesta-Val; and

WHEREAS, the current school year has witnessed the continued success of the Atlee High School band, with performances at the State Department of Education's back-to-school meeting, the Carquest Bowl in Miami, and the Junior Orange Bowl Parade in Coral Gables, Florida; and

WHEREAS, on February 8, 1995, the jazz ensemble of the Atlee High School band will perform in the rotunda of the Capitol as part of the Music Educators National Conference 50th anniversary celebration; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Atlee High School band be commended for its remarkable success and for so brilliantly representing Hanover County and the Commonwealth in national music events and competitions; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to George F. Sadler, Director of Bands, in honor of the exceptional performance of the Atlee High School band.
