On the death of Richard Charles Gill.

WHEREAS, Richard Charles Gill, a resident of Quinton and for many years the manager of the Scribner's Book Store in Colonial Williamsburg, died on April 20, 1994; and

WHEREAS, Richard Charles Gill, known to his many friends as "Rick," was educated in Newport News and Williamsburg and at The College of William and Mary; and

WHEREAS, overcoming many adversities, Richard Charles Gill worked his way up from stock clerk to manager of the Scribner's Book Store, and he a defender and champion of the First Amendment rights of free speech and free press; and

WHEREAS, Richard Charles Gill devoted the last years of his life to the furtherance of great literature, excellence of thought, and a more literate society, building a reputation for kindness, generosity, dedication, faithfulness, scholarship, and hard work; and

WHEREAS, a man who loved people and loved learning, Richard Charles Gill is remembered with great fondness and respect by the many people with whom he came in contact in his life's work; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of Richard Charles Gill; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Richard Charles Gill as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
