HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 716
Commending the League of Women Voters of Virginia on the occasion of its 75th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan organization that originated in the Women's Suffrage Movement, celebrated its 75th anniversary on February 14, 1995; and

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Virginia, also founded in 1920 in the City of Richmond to help women voters carry out their new responsibilities, has worked for 75 years to be a voice for all citizens and a force for change; and

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Virginia has provided nonpartisan information on candidates and issues for elections; and

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Virginia has encouraged voter registration, voter participation, and informed voting; and

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Virginia has helped generations of voters understand the structure and function of government at all levels; and

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Virginia has provided nonpartisan, balanced information on public policy issues to the citizens of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the League of Women Voters of Virginia has worked to achieve government policies that promote the public interest; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the League of Women Voters of Virginia for its efforts to raise the level of informed political debate and promote reasoned public policy over the past 75 years; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the League of Women Voters of Virginia as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on the occasion of the League's diamond jubilee and best wishes for its continued success.
