HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 712
Honoring the Washington's Birthday commemoration of the end of World War II.

WHEREAS, 1995 marks the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, which ended officially in Europe on May 7, 1945 (V-E Day), and in the Pacific on September 2, 1945 (V-J Day); and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Falls Church will honor the veterans of that great conflict with a ceremony on February 22, 1995, George Washington's birthday, at Veterans' Common in the City of Falls Church; and

WHEREAS, the celebration of the 263rd anniversary of the birth of George Washington, a native of Virginia and a veteran of the French and Indian Wars and the American Revolution, is an appropriate moment to commemorate the bravery and dedication of America's veterans of World War II; and

WHEREAS, the events in Falls Church on February 22, 1995, will provide a fitting beginning to a year of reflection on the momentous events of 50 years ago and will honor the heroism and great sacrifice of the veterans of World War II; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly join with the citizens of Falls Church in honoring America's veterans on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the organizers of the Veterans' Common ceremonies as an expression of the support of the General Assembly.
