HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 706
Commending the Olive Branch Little League on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.

WHEREAS, in 1954, the citizens of Portsmouth's Simonsdale-Hodges Manor communities saw the need for organized baseball for the youth of their neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, with 40 players on four teams, playing on one field, the Olive Branch Little League was born; and

WHEREAS, by the early 1970s, the Olive Branch Little League recognized the need for a program for girls and established a softball program; and

WHEREAS, by 1994, its 40th anniversary, the Olive Branch Little League had grown to 44 teams playing on eight fields; and

WHEREAS, over the decades, thousands of parents, grandparents, children, and volunteers have participated in and contributed to the success of the Olive Branch Little League; and

WHEREAS, by teaching teamwork and fair play, the many Olive Branch Little League volunteers have contributed to the development of honest, productive, and decent citizens; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate the Olive Branch Little League of Portsmouth on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Olive Branch Little League as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for continued success.
