1995 SESSION
LD5464136Patrons--Brickley, Marshall, Parrish and Rollison; Senators: Barry, Chichester and Colgan
WHEREAS, Potomac Hospital, in Prince William County, has been named one of the top 100 hospitals in the country after an analysis of nearly 4,000 acute-care hospitals; and
WHEREAS, the analysis, by HCIA and Mercer Health Provider Counseling, selected top hospitals in five categories, and Potomac Hospital was one of 20 urban hospitals with fewer than 250 beds chosen from a peer group of 1,529 similar hospitals; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1972 after an intensive community effort begun by the Woodbridge Jaycees, Potomac Hospital has grown from a 30-bed facility 23 years ago to a growing hospital offering a full range of health care services; and
WHEREAS, the HCIA/Mercer analysis found that the top 100 hospitals were able to reduce death rates and complications while charging patients less, maintaining healthy asset levels, and operating at a lower cost; and
WHEREAS, at a time of national debate over rapidly increasing health-care costs, the achievements of hospitals such as Potomac Hospital are all the more remarkable and commendable; and
WHEREAS, the HCIA/Mercer study estimated that if all hospitals operated with the skill and efficiency of Potomac Hospital, the national savings would exceed $20 billion per year, mortality would decline by 17 percent, and average length of patient time in the hospital would decline by nearly a full day; and
WHEREAS, the exceptional performance of Potomac Hospital brings recognition and credit to the many talented and dedicated people who have contributed to its award-winning performance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Potomac Hospital on being named one of the finest hospitals in the country; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Potomac Hospital in recognition of this singular and well-earned honor.
