1995 SESSION
WHEREAS, during 1995, the Danville Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc., will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding; and
WHEREAS, on September 18, 1945, the Danville Life Saving Crew held its first official meeting, and within a year, it had received its charter, had chosen its first captain, and had responded to its first emergency call; and
WHEREAS, over its half-century of existence, the Danville Life Saving Crew has grown, changed, and prospered, acquiring its first heavy equipment during the late 1940s, joining the United Way Fund in 1950, introducing radio communications in the late 1950s, and dedicating its first building in 1964; and
WHEREAS, the Danville Life Saving Crew now covers a 293-square-mile area of Danville and Pittsylvania, serving the citizens of the area 24 hours a day, every day; and
WHEREAS, with over 100 active and highly trained members, all of whom are volunteers, the Danville Life Saving Crew responds to emergencies with modern vehicles and equipment, including advanced life-support units, quick response units, and rescue boats; and
WHEREAS, the only feature of the Danville Life Saving Crew that has not changed is the dedication of its members, from the 12 charter members in 1945, to the six members who were inducted into the Julian Stanley Wise Virginia Hall of Fame in 1990, to the many hundreds of volunteers who have given so generously of their time, talent, expertise, and energy to the benefit of their neighbors and their communities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Danville Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc., on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the General Assembly join with the citizens of Danville and Pittsylvania County in saluting the invaluable contributions of the Danville Life Saving Crew; and, be it
RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Danville Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc., in appreciation of its outstanding record of service to the citizens of Danville and Pittsylvania County.
