WHEREAS, the Clover Hill High School girls' tennis team captured the Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship for 1994; and

WHEREAS, relying on exceptional team depth, the Cavaliers from Clover Hill High School, in Chesterfield County, swept the Dominion District, Central Region, and state titles; and

WHEREAS, finishing with a sparkling 16-2 record, the Cavaliers became stronger as the season progressed and reached their peak during the state tournament, easily defeating Northern Region champion Thomas Jefferson High School in the quarterfinals and Eastern Region champion First Colonial High School in the semifinals; and

WHEREAS, in the state title match, the Cavaliers faced a strong team from Langley High School, which had won the state championship in five of the past seven years; and

WHEREAS, in a close, exciting match, the Cavaliers prevailed, 5-4, a tribute to the fine leadership of Coach Wilton Johns and the consistent contributions of all of the Clover Hill players; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly salute the girls' tennis team from Clover Hill High School on its triumphant 1994 season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Wilton Johns in honor of the championship season of the Cavaliers from Clover Hill High School.
