WHEREAS, after 12 exceptionally productive years of service to the Danville School Board, including four years as chairman, Charles H. Majors has announced his retirement from the Board; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to the education of all of Danville’s students to their maximum potential, Charles Majors has been instrumental in the improvement and growth of the Danville Public Schools throughout his tenure; and

WHEREAS, Charles Majors has strongly supported safe and orderly schools, competitive salaries for teachers and administrators, improved standards for instructional programs, and community involvement in the educational advancement of Danville’s youth; and

WHEREAS, among the many programs established in the Danville Public Schools during Charles Majors’ 12 years of service are the Homework Hotline Communication System, the Regional Alternative Education Program, the Opportunity School, expanded preschool and early intervention reading programs, and the Academically Gifted Middle School Magnet Program; and

WHEREAS, in 1994, the Danville Public Schools received the singular honor of being named a Medallion Winner, the United States Senate Productivity and Quality Award for Virginia; and

WHEREAS, throughout his 12 years on the Danville School Board, Charles Majors has worked tirelessly for the improvement of educational opportunity for the young people of the community and has demonstrated effective leadership as School Board Chairman, to the ultimate benefit of all of the citizens of Danville; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Charles H. Majors for his dedicated and productive service to the Danville School Board; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charles H. Majors as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for exceptional commitment to the education of the young people of Danville.
