LD3728388WHEREAS, many localities experience a problem with local written correspondence being returned to the locality due to an incorrect or insufficient mailing address; and
WHEREAS, to ensure continued eligibility of voters, it is required that they be registered in the precinct of their residence; and
WHEREAS, in the interest of efficiency, it may be advisable for localities to refer all mail envelopes which have been returned to the locality to the office of the general registrar to improve voter registration address records; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That localities be encouraged to refer all returned mail envelopes to the office of the general registrar for the purpose of correcting voters' addresses or taking other appropriate action; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That if envelopes must be retained to document that legal notices were mailed, localities be encouraged to send copies of the envelopes to the office of the general registrar; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to the executive directors of the Virginia Municipal League and the Virginia Association of Counties, requesting that they send a copy of the resolution to the chief elected official of each county, city and town of the Commonwealth, so that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia.
