1995 SESSION
LD1795388WHEREAS, many localities experience a problem with local written correspondence being returned to the locality due to an incorrect or insufficient mailing address; and
WHEREAS, the returned correspondence often consists of important legal notices or billing matters; and
WHEREAS, it may not be realistic to expect each agency and department of a locality to maintain the most recent address information available; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of both the locality and its citizens that such correspondence be correctly delivered to the addressee; and
WHEREAS, in the interests of efficiency, it may be advisable for localities to refer all local correspondence which has been returned to the locality due to an incorrect or insufficient address to the local registrar’s office to determine whether a better address or more complete address is available; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That localities be encouraged to promptly refer all local correspondence which has been returned to the locality due to an incorrect or insufficient address to the local registrar’s office in order to determine whether a better address is available; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for transmittal to the executive directors of the Virginia Municipal League and the Virginia Association of Counties, requesting that they send a copy of the resolution to the chief elected official of each county, city and town of the Commonwealth, so that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia.
