1995 SESSION
WHEREAS, Henry Joseph Daly, a 28-year veteran of the District of Columbia police force and a legendary homicide detective, died on November 22, 1994; and
WHEREAS, a resident of Falls Church, "Hank" Daly was born in Kassel, Germany, and served for six years in the U.S. Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, in 1966, Hank Daly joined the police force in Washington, D.C., and for the past 13 years was a highly respected and singularly effective member of the homicide squad; and
WHEREAS, since 1991, Sergeant Daly supervised the District's "Cold Case Squad," a group of veteran detectives and FBI agents assigned to unsolved homicide cases; and
WHEREAS, a mentor to many younger police officers, Sergeant Daly was known for his coolness under pressure, his perseverance, and his outstanding abilities as a homicide detective; and
WHEREAS, the death of Sergeant Hank Daly, and the deaths of two FBI agents who were his friends and colleagues, represents a terrible loss to the District of Columbia Police Department and to the cause of law-enforcement throughout the region; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the untimely passing of a dedicated and effective public servant, Sergeant Henry Joseph Daly; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant Daly in honor of his lifetime of service to his community.
