1995 SESSION
WHEREAS, the 1994 Central Springfield All-Stars began their remarkable post-season run with a victory in the Little League District 9 tournament, then advanced to the state tournament in early August; and
WHEREAS, facing a tough schedule of four games in as many days, Central Springfield dominated in its first three games by scores of 13-0, 13-1, and 13-2, then jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Ashland in the state final game; and
WHEREAS, Ashland's comeback, which turned a 3-0 deficit into a 6-3 lead, provided Central Springfield with its first real challenge in the tournament, a challenge it responded to with an 11-6 win for the state title; and
WHEREAS, joining 13 other teams from throughout the southeastern United States in St. Petersburg, Florida, Central Springfield opened regional play with three straight victories, over Georgia, Louisiana, and Arkansas, before meeting a strong Florida team, which prevailed, 13-5; and
WHEREAS, faced with the prospect of defeating Florida twice to win the double-elimination regional tournament, Central Springfield triumphed by scores of 5-1 and 8-3 to win a coveted berth in the Little League World Series; and
WHEREAS, in Williamsport, Central Springfield defeated the Eastern Region champions from Massachusetts, 2-1, and the Central champions from Minnesota, 4-1, to advance to the semifinals, where the team was twice defeated by Western Region champion Northridge, California, the eventual World Series champion; and
WHEREAS, the boys from Springfield ended their remarkable baseball season as the second-ranked Little League team in the country, and tied for the No. 3 ranking in the world; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Central Springfield Little League baseball team on its triumphant 1994 season and on achieving the status of one of the best Little League teams in the world; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the General Assembly join with the many fans and loyal supporters of the Central Springfield All-Stars in saluting their exceptional abilities, their team spirit, their sportsmanship, and their pursuit of excellence; and, be it
RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jim Hamilton, manager of the Central Springfield Little League team, in honor of the team's sterling accomplishments.
