WHEREAS, Ruth Pace has contributed immeasurably to the musical and cultural education of generations of Martinsville and Henry County citizens; and

WHEREAS, a native Virginian, Ruth Pace was educated in the Ridgeway Public Schools, at the University of Kentucky, and at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Pace has continued her education and music training at such prestigious institutions as the Juilliard School of Music, the Oberlin Conservatory, and the Westminster Choir School and has studied with many of the more prominent musicians of our time; and

WHEREAS, during her career of over 40 years with the Martinsville City Schools, Ruth Pace has put her extensive education and immense talent to good use, teaching thousands of young Virginians, from the Martinsville area and beyond, the joys and rewards of great music; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her service as Director of Choral Music for Martinsville Junior and Senior High Schools, Ruth Pace served as the Director of the Cathedral Choir, as guest conductor for many junior and senior high school massed chorus events in Virginia and South Carolina, and as accompanist for Virginia Music Camp choruses and All-Virginia choruses; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Pace has also rendered invaluable service to her profession, serving as president of the Phi Beta Music fraternity, president of the Martinsville Education Association, president of the Virginia Choral Directors' Association, and president of the Virginia Music Educators' Association; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Pace's extraordinary energy, talent, and dedication have earned her the admiration, respect, and affection of the countless Martinsville-area citizens whose lives she has enriched; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ruth Pace for her many years of devoted service to Martinsville, Henry County, and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ruth Pace as an expression of the General Assembly's great respect for her accomplishments.
