WHEREAS, Robert Ballard Burger, the former owner and president of Doyne-Burger Funeral Home and a leader in the Farmville-Prince Edward community, died on November 20, 1994; and

WHEREAS, a native of Baltimore, Robert Burger graduated from Farmville High School and attended Virginia Tech before serving his country during World War II in the 106th Infantry Division in the European Theater; and

WHEREAS, Robert Burger was an honor graduate of the Cincinnati College of Embalming and held Virginia Funeral Director and Embalmer licenses for over 40 years; and

WHEREAS, a community leader, he served as past president of the Prince Edward Wildlife Club, the Prince Edward County Community Chest (now the United Way), the Prince Edward Academy PTA, and the Farmville Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, in 1966, Robert Burger was appointed by Governor Mills Godwin to a term on the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers; and

WHEREAS, an active member of the Farmville Baptist Church, he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, as Adult Ladies Sunday School teacher, and as Moderator; and

WHEREAS, active even after his retirement, Robert Burger, at the time of his death, was serving on the Board of Directors of the Southside Community Hospital; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of an exemplary citizen of the Commonwealth, Robert Ballard Burger; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Ballard Burger as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
