HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 423
Designating the week of July 19-23, 1995, as Kappa Sigma Week in Virginia.

WHEREAS, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity was founded on December 10, 1869, at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville; and

WHEREAS, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity celebrates the 125th anniversary of its founding in Richmond and Charlottesville during the week of July 19-23, 1995; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity has established 224 chapters throughout the United States and North America, including 11 chapters in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity has initiated 190,000 members since its inception; and

WHEREAS, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity is a recognized leader in developing scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service among college fraternities and sororities in North America; and

WHEREAS, for 125 years, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity has provided service and leadership to the communities and campuses where its chapters have been established; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby designate the week of July 19-23, 1995, as Kappa Sigma Week in Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Kappa Sigma Fraternity in honor of its 125 years of service to colleges and communities across North America.
