LD8717376WHEREAS, in 1995, The Garden Club of Virginia will observe the 75th anniversary of its founding and sponsor its 62nd Historic Garden Week in Virginia tours; and
WHEREAS, since 1920, programs sponsored by The Garden Club of Virginia and its member clubs have contributed substantially to the enhancement of historic properties, the beauty of communities and highways, and the protection and conservation of natural resources in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, since 1929, the Historic Garden Week tours have made possible the restoration and preservation of the gardens and grounds of more than 36 important historic landmarks throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, these restoration projects help to preserve Virginia’s unique and distinguished history and have been recognized with numerous awards from local, state, and national organizations; and
WHEREAS, today, the Historic Garden Week tours in April attract more than 50,000 visitors to Virginia from throughout the United States and from many foreign countries, benefiting the economy of the Commonwealth through increased tourism; and
WHEREAS, the many individual contributions and initiatives of the club members indicate a shared vision for the continued progress and welfare of both The Garden Club of Virginia and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend The Garden Club of Virginia for its service to the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the General Assembly hereby recognize the 75th anniversary of the founding of The Garden Club of Virginia and the club’s 62nd annual Historic Garden Week tour, to be held April 22nd through April 29th, 1995; and, be it
RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to The Garden Club of Virginia in honor of its significant contributions to historic preservation in Virginia.
