LD8743220WHEREAS, for the major part of this century, Boyd F. “Hawkbill” Hall has been a major benefactor of baseball, schools, and parks and recreation in Franklin County; and
WHEREAS, beginning as early as the 1920s, Boyd Hall has been involved in nearly all aspects of youth sports and recreation in Franklin County; and
WHEREAS, a hard-working family man who has frequently worked more than one job to raise his 11 children, Boyd Hall has always found the time to help, to work, to coach, and to do what was needed to keep youth baseball alive in Franklin County; and
WHEREAS, during the 1950s and 1960s, Boyd Hall helped to form county baseball leagues, where he coached for at least 20 years; and
WHEREAS, Boyd Hall founded an umpires’ association, called games himself, and helped build the first fence at the Franklin County High School baseball field; and
WHEREAS, often working behind the scenes doing the unglamorous but necessary chores, Boyd Hall has prepared baseball fields with his own equipment; has purchased bats, balls, and uniforms; and has sold concessions from the back of his truck to raise money for local teams; and
WHEREAS, in 1994, Boyd Hall was recognized for his matchless contributions to baseball by being inducted into the Roanoke-Salem Baseball Hall of Fame; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Boyd F. Hall for his lifelong dedication to the youth of Franklin County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Boyd F. Hall in gratitude for his sustained, selfless, and invaluable contributions to his community.
