1995 SESSION
WHEREAS, on June 30, 1994, J. Barrett Jones completed his term as Chair of the Virginia Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Advisory Committee, thus ending eight years of outstanding service to the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, appointed to the Advisory Committee in 1986, J. Barrett Jones was appointed Chair in 1990, when he also began representing Virginia as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Coalition for Juvenile Justice; and
WHEREAS, under the leadership of J. Barrett Jones, the Virginia Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Advisory Committee became a national leader in securing and maintaining compliance with the mandates of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act; and
WHEREAS, the Advisory Committee has played a growing and significant role in advocating the interests of youth and public safety before the General Assembly and the executive branch of Virginia's government during the tenure of J. Barrett Jones; and
WHEREAS, also under his direction, the influence of the Advisory Committee with the Virginia Congressional Delegation has grown, and Virginia has assumed a position of national prominence in addressing the problem of the overrepresentation of minority youth in the juvenile justice system; and
WHEREAS, J. Barrett Jones's contributions have been numerous and significant, his dedication exemplary, his service memorable, and his impact lasting; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend J. Barrett Jones for his exceptional leadership of the Virginia Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Advisory Committee; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to J. Barrett Jones as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his years of service on behalf of the youth of the Commonwealth.
